Chris Marshall – Sports Psychologist

I am currently employed by the English Institute of sport as a Sport Scientist specialising in the psychology support of athletes on both the Boxing and Disability Table Tennis programmes. My main role within both of these sports is to work with each athlete, through their coaches, to build and develop their mental toughness ensuring that they make the right decisions at the right time under pressure. To do this I will work directly with athletes, with the athlete-coach triad, deliver educational workshops and provide 1:1 support with the coaching team helping them maximise their effectiveness.

Prior to this, I worked at a Premier League Football Club as their Academy Sport Scientist where my main role was developing a sport psychology programme that enabled all athletes (from u9’s – u16’s) to gain some level of continued psychological support. I combined the psychological aspects of my job with broader sport science disciplines showing a great understanding of how each of these areas interlink together. Privately I have worked with a number of sports including tennis, squash, table tennis, badminton, and athletics. It is my firm belief that as human beings our only sustainable advantage over the opposition is our ability to learn. Therefore, my philosophy is built around this approach harnessing individuals current strengths whilst enabling them to devise strategies to help them learn more about themselves and what is required for them to succeed at the top.
