training clinic
  • Hello javelinthrowers. I'm not from the UK but ..... who cares. This could be an interesting forum so we'll see. I'm a javelincoach from Rotterdam (Holland). One of my pupils will be going for gold at the paralympics in 2012 (he was 4th in Beijing). Tommorrow we leave for a clinic in Budapest, with Ferenc Paragi. You can follow our story at: www.javelinthrowmagazine.com ...section: a paralympian javelin thrower. Anyone experience with this former hero ?
  • Hi Bernadette

    Interestingly I have not met Ferenc, although would love the opportunity to do so. I acutally have a lot fo video footage of him throwing from the 70s and 80s and have a great video clip of him throwing 96.20m in Cwmbran, Wales on 18th May 1980. This throw can be viewed on YouTube via the following link;

    Enjoy the clinic

    David
  • Thanks David. the clinic was GREAT and we will be working with him a lot towards the Paralympics2012. It was all very inspiring...as you can read on my blog: http://beronderweg.blogspot.com/
  • Budapest Sportmarketing is wrinting a book about Ferenc Paragi. If you have footage...they would be realy interested. see: http://www.javelinthrowmagazine.com/poster/content/JAVELIN+BOOK/javelinthrowmagazine.do?cache=true&mobile=false
  • Anyone know any techniques that I could use to stop pulling the back of the javelin down when I throw it , I have also noticed that most professionals throw the javelin to the right of the sector and I seem to be throwing it to the left , anyone know why this is?

    Hi Ian, that sounds to me like you are pulling around to the left due to the left side block not holding. When you throw you can try keeping the left arm as solid as possible to prevent a twisting movement. At release you should be moving forward with chest aiming high.

    In respect of dropping the back of the javelin when you throw, try rotating your wrist in slightly, especially on drawback.
